Visa Travel Money Prepaid debit cards are reloadable debit cards that will work all Visa locations and ATMs where you see the Plus or Interlink network.  The cards are issued at the credit union office (rather than mailed to your home) and can be used in over 20 million Visa locations worldwide. 

Travel Card Advantages

• Cards are not linked to your savings or checking accounts so your accounts are protected from fraud and identity theft if they are lost or stolen
• Eliminates the paper based travelers checks which are no longer as widely accepted as they once were

On Going Monthly Costs

• Add funds (reload) $2.00
• Card replacement $5.00
• ATM withdrawal (domestic) and balance inquiry fee of $1.50 (plus the machine fee)
• International ATM withdrawal fee of $2.00
• Denied ATM fee $.50
• Cash advance over the counter $5.00
• Overdraft $15.00
• Inactivity fee of $5.00 if card is not used in a 10 month consecutive period (fees are deducted the 11^th month)
• 2% foreign conversion fee
• 4 voice response unit, VRU, transactions per month and then a $.50 fee for each additional transaction
• 2 free live customer service calls a month and then a $5.00 fee
• Cash out option is available for $15.00 

There are no fees for making purchases with the card.  Unlike the Visa gift card, the Visa Travel Money card can be used at hotels and pay at the pump.  One restriction for pay at the pump is that the card must have a minimum balance of $51.00 at use at the gas pump.  If the card has a balance of less than $51 you can go inside and ask the cashier to enter the exact amount. 

Besides using the Visa Travel Money card for your own travel, it would be a good alternative to send with your children if they go out of town or away to school.  Visa Travel Money could also be used for online purchases to avoid exposing your debit or credit card number to the internet.
