Frequently Asked Questions
Why, when I phone the credit union, does it seems like I always get the voice mail system?
All calls are immediately answered by the voice mail and your options are listed for you. If you would like to bypass the system and speak to someone you may punch in that person's extension. (to see a list of people's extensions, click here.) You will also get a person's voice mail if they are already on the phone with a member, they have someone at their desk, or they are currently away from their desk. We apologize that we cannot always answer your call, but we make every effort to return your call in a timely manner.
How long do I have to be off work before disability insurance starts paying my loan payments?
If you purchased your insurance through the credit union, you need to be off work at least 14 days (not 14 business days). We do not have the claim forms at the credit union. If you need a claim form, contact Monica Edwards at 872-8151 or Leslie McReynolds at 872-8153 and they will have a form mailed to you. Once the form is completed return it to Monica or Leslie and they will submit the claim for payment.
Who do I talk to about my disability claim?
Monica and Leslie can handle disability insurance claims for your loans if you purchased the insurance through the credit union. If you purchased the insurance through the dealer, you will need to contact them. You may call Monica Edwards at 872-8151 or Leslie McReynolds at 872-8153, they will be happy to answer any question you may have.
Can I make interest only loan payments?
We do not accept interest only loan payments at the credit union. All payment plans must include enough money to reduce the outstanding balance on the loan. This is for both our benefit and your benefit. This way the value of the collateral will not fall far below the amount of the loan and leave you in an unsecured position.
Who do I talk to concerning my delinquent loan/account?
If you have a delinquent loan or credit card, you need to speak to Rosemary at (217) 872-4171. She will be able to speak to you about payment options and the status of your account. Once an account becomes delinquent, our loan officers will no longer be able to assist you, you will need to contact Rosemary at the number above.
What is CPI insurance?
Collateral Protection Insurance. If the credit union is holding the title to your vehicle as collateral for a loan, we require that you provide insurance. If you do not provide proof of insurance, the credit union will add Collateral Protection Insurance to your loan.
CPI is very expensive, and covers the value of the vehicle only. It does not cover liability and it is not valid insurance as required by Illinois law for all motorists. It will only reimburse the credit union in case of an accident. To cancel and/or get a refund for the CPI premium, we need a loss payable clause from your insurance company showing Decatur Earthmover Credit Union as the leinholder on the policy.
Are co-signers always required on loans?
Co-signer requirements are determined on an individual basis. The credit union looks at the borrower's credit history, income levels, time on job, etc. to determine if an applicant qualifies for a loan by themselves.
