11 Ways To Save On Groceries

  1. Always make a detailed menu for the week before shopping. With a well thought out plan, you won't be tempted to grab unnecessary items "just in case."
  2. Always have a list! This is a major one. Without a list you're bound to forget important items and stock up on things you don't need.
  3. Use coupons. Coupons are awesome! And, they're so easy to find. Do a quick Google search before heading to the store and you're bound to find quite a few. Or check out the store's app (looking at you, Kroger) for coupons. But remember, if you don't need it, don't buy it just because it's a deal!
  4. Use generic brands instead of name brands. This is especially easy to do with cleaning products because the ingredients are exactly the same in each!
  5. Cook with seasonal produce. Seasonal produce will be less expensive because the cost of shipping it to your area isn't included in the price. This is also a fun way to change up your typical meals and try new things!
  6. Avoid buying something just because it's on sale. It may seem like a good deal, but you aren't saving money if that item sits in your pantry until you throw it out.
  7. Make your own food instead of buying convenience, pre packaged food. It may be a bit more work, but it's almost always cheaper. Bonus points: it's usually healthier, too!
  8. Buy in bulk. This may seem pricier at the time, but you'll be able to make less trips to the store this way.
  9. Always take a full inventory of your fridge and pantry before shopping. You wouldn't want to buy something you already have!
  10. When possible, buy larger containers of food and supplies instead of individual portions. This saves money and the environment.
  11. Consider using a grocery delivery service. It may come with a small fee, but it will prevent you from grabbing items you don't need while shopping.
